Can’t - Four letters. No more, no less. Three of them grant you permission to conquer the world. One deprives you of glory. “It can’t be done”, “Don’t bother” - they say - “Many others have tried before and failed”.

So you listen to those voices and surrender your hopes, returning to the comfort of the explored and the console of the ordinary. Or perhaps not. Maybe you hear those voices but don’t listen to them. And when the world “impossible”, “unattainable” or “can’t” are pronounces what echoes instead in your soul are “dream”, “passion” and “will”.

Absurd - How terrifying. How beautiful. The absurd lies in the depth of your imagination soothed by the lullaby of the lowest common denominator. It lives in your heart and dies in your head. Face it for the first time and excitement envelopes you. Praise the absurd. For only those who attempt it will attain the impossible.

Unrealistic - A word created to inspire fear and doubt. And adjective born to undermine the will. A spear to pierce the heart of dreams. A pretext to accept defeat. An alibi for the irresolute and an excuse for mediocrity. Above all, the voice of those who don’t dare against those who truly believe.

Remember — We are made from the dreams that drive us. Learn to dream big and they will come true. “)

Hey Folks! I am curious — what other blogs do you read apart from DesignersMind.com? =)

I am thinking of building a list of top blogs for designers here. Your input will be appreciated!

Here’s three things I ran across today that just bug the hell out of me. Please refrain from these things when you design.

  • No padding whatsoever: When I refer to padding, I’m talking about the space between an object and the object’s container. For example, the text inside of a DIV. When the DIV has really low padding, everything seems really cramped together, and when it has really high padding, things start to look all over the place. Here’s an example:

This could be fixed very easily with 10 or 15 pixels of padding. Content would have more room to breathe, and I’d probably stick around to check out the site.

  • Sticky notes: While they do have their place (say, on a web site about sticky notes, or something of the like), I don’t quite understand how this:

..made it’s way in there. What exactly is the point of the sticky note? Is there some kind of life-changing message that you had to make stick out like a sore thumb just so people would read it? This gets most websites a thumbs-down from me.

  • HUGE rounded corners with a large stroke: Sorry guys, but not many people liked this 5 years ago, and that’s not changing:

To me this just feels bloated and chunky, and the inner glow screams “I’ve been using Photoshop for 5 hours, look what I made!”.

Please guys, this stuff just looks bad (no offense to the designers of these sites, if you really want the images removed I will).
